ABOUT GEORGIA
Georgia – country in Eurasia, the Caucasus, the Black east coast. It is bordered to the north by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan. Transcontinental country is located in southeastern Europe and western Asia, but sociopolitically and culturally it is the part of Europe.
Over the early third centuries ruled Christianity ; Country became United Monarchy in 1008. However, after a period of revival and fall has passed, until the XVI century, several small political units would collapse. Georgian lands were conquered step by step of Imperial Russia in 1801-1866. After the Russian Revolution of independence - The Democratic Republic of Georgia (1918-21) became a victim of the Bolsheviks and in 1922 became part of the Soviet Union.
Georgia regained its independence in 1991. After a chaotic period of civil war and severe economic crisis in the country is relatively stable at the end of the 1990s. In 2003, the Rose (bloodless) revolution came to power in a new, pro-Western, reformist government. The new government's commitment to the country and separated areas to return to NATO membership dramatically worsen relations with Russia. In parallel with the rapid economic development of the country has made it an important center for Eurasian energy projects.
Georgia is a representative democracy, organized as a unitary, semi-presidential republic. The country is currently a member of several international organizations, including UN, the Council of Europe, Guam, and Black Sea Economic Cooperation, the World Trade Organization. Georgia also aspires to join NATO and the European Union.
